Yoga Therapy Sessions
Although all yoga is potentially therapeutic and healing, yoga therapy is the specific application of yogic tools to address an individual's physical, mental and emotional needs as defined by the International Association of Yoga Therapists (IAYT). It is an emerging discipline that is recognized as an integral component of integrative medicine. Yoga therapists have fulfilled extensive education and experience requirements and are certified by IAYT. I've been a certified yoga therapist (C-IAYT) since 2017.
As a yoga therapist, I first meet with you 1-1 to talk about your life and needs. Then we work to together to design a personal practice that addresses specific conditions and desired goals, which may include:
Each session is personalized and tailored to you. It may include movement, physical postures, restorative poses, breathing practices, deep relaxation, meditation, visualization, sound healing, energy work, gentle touch, and yoga philosophy. At times, I will prescribe practices for you to do at home to develop skills that can improve your life. With each session, we continue to refine and adjust the practice to assist you in benefiting from ancient, powerful yoga teachings that remain applicable in modern life. My goal is to guide you on your journey and empower you to embrace your life.
Yoga therapy can help you initiate changes in your life. With increased self-awareness and care, you begin to gain the confidence, resilience and motivation to replace unhealthy beliefs and habits with compassionate behavior that benefits your overall health and well-being. With continued practice, you may gain a greater sense of purpose, an inner peace, and a deeper understanding of your own true essence.

Testimonials
After experiencing chronic fatigue for many years, I worked with Marie Prashanti Goodell. In the initial assessment, Marie and I spoke about my goal of creating a daily yoga practice that would allow me to meet the physical and emotional challenges of chronic fatigue, and to understand how yoga practices could help me balance CF with the hefty demands of a corporate career. In our sessions, we worked on a blend of restorative sequences, energizing sequences, Yoga Nidra, meditation and breathing techniques. As a result of yoga therapy, I understand and accept chronic fatigue better, and have tools for coping with it on and off the mat. I feel incredibly lucky to have found Marie. She puts her heart and soul into helping you. She honors who you are as an individual and brings not just her decades of yoga experience, but her life experience and her corporate experience into the sessions that she creates for you. Marie is truly holistic in her approach to yoga therapy. ~ S.A.
After a severe TBI and 6 months of hospitalization, I met with Marie Goodell for yoga therapy sessions at my home. In the initial assessment, we spoke about how yoga could play a healing role in my recovery and my life. In our sessions, we worked on ways to improve my balance, flexibility and strength on the left side of my body. As a result of yoga therapy, I feel stronger physically and mentally. Meditation helped me with relaxation. I appreciate that Marie did lots of research to discover ways to help me with specific issues caused by my injury. She is an inspiring teacher and compassionate person. Sincerely, ~B.K.
After experiencing ongoing pain and discomfort in my right hip, knee, and ankles and left shoulder, I made an appointment to be seen by Marie Prashanti. I had been attending restorative yoga classes with Marie Prashanti at the IYI for several months, so I felt comfortable with her approach to yoga in general. Prior to our appointment, I completed and sent a Yoga Therapy Intake form giving background on my experience with yoga, my general health (physical, mental, emotional) and specific conditions I wanted to work on. At the initial assessment, we spoke about my goals and how yoga practices could help me reach them. In the initial session, we reviewed several asanas working on the poses for the hips, knees and ankles. We also began reviewing Yoga Sutras of Pantanjali to help focus on the spiritual/emotional aspect my overall health and well-being. We concluded the session with deep relaxation and guided meditation. At subsequent visits we began working on my left shoulder condition. After several sessions, my physical symptoms (pain/discomfort) were decreasing, so we worked together coming up with an ongoing daily plan (asanas, deep relaxation, restorative yoga) I could implement. The introduction to the Yoga Sutras was very helpful in deepening my overall understanding of yoga. With much gratitude and affection, P.W.
